Elder Scrolls Online Lore - In the Search of Power

Power comes in many forms in the vast world of Tamriel. Strength of arms, cunning, knowledge of magic, Daedra worship, the Voice, and even the Elder Scrolls themselves are all forms that true power takes. It is commonly known that good training, fine weapons, and a good amount of battle experience makes for a powerful individual. Often human and orc political leaders are such warriors. That is not to say that the more guileful leaders are not as potent. The world is dotted with outposts of the Dark Brotherhood and the Thieves' Guild. Both of these organizations are independent but also work together on rare occasion toward a common goal. Regardless, either one is a perfect match for any task requiring the utmost discretion and presence of mind.

Speaking of presence of mind, magical power is not to be taken lightly either. The many faceted and seemingly impossible capabilities of magic lend themselves to the creation of colleges of magic and vast libraries of knowledge on the subject. Through the knowledge and practice of magic, one might theoretically have the power to rival even the Daedra. Sometimes called gods, sometimes called demi-gods, often called selfish, frequently referred to as tricky and not to be trusted, the Daedra are the epitome of mystery. Their existence is known far and wide, and yet most of the population avoids them. Some find themselves enamored with their power and build or search for shrines in honor of the Daedra in order to obtain some of the Daedric luster. They also have been known to grant the power of their legacy to a chosen few in times of great change in the form of powerful artifacts, much stronger than those made with magic. Only slipping in to uncommon knowledge recently, the Voice is indeed a strange and powerful force. It brings with it gales of wind, burning flames, and crashes of thunder. It is a projection of the ancient language of the dragons. Its words bend and shape reality, which brings forth questions about the dragons' involvement in the creation of Tamriel.

Lastly but certainly not the least, the Elder Scrolls are rare indeed and not an easy artifact to come by. Much of what is not meant to be known by mortals by its very design is likely contained within the enigmatic and little known Elder scrolls. It has been said that the power to alter the fabric of reality, the power to change history of the alliance even after it has happened, and even the power to move entire mountains are contained within these texts. Perhaps it is best that they do not fall into the hands of mortals at all.
